Many of EXAKT’s Cutting & Grinding devices have been designed to work in concert to produce thin sections of samples containing metals, polymers and human tissue.

The analytical modalities for these kinds of specimens required that:

  • the samples be thin (less than 50 microns),
  • have a flat, planar surface, and
  • the thickness of the section be uniform.

All of these criteria become increasingly difficult to achieve when the hardness of the various components is radically different.

EXAKT Cutting/Grinding Systems for Histology attempt to address the major problems inherent in sample preparation of these types of samples. From cutting the gross sample to improve fixation, dehydration and resin infiltration to polishing the final slide, EXAKT has designed a device or technique to minimize or eliminate problems.

A typical system is made up of:

A cutting system

A grinding system

For cutting the gross sample into faced slabs and cutting thin sections from a block

For grinding and polishing a flat, even surface

Adhesive Presses

For maintaining parallel surfaces during all steps of the technique

Resin Infiltration or
Polymerization System

For use with Technovit 7200 VLC embedding media

A consultation with an EXAKT representative will help you in selecting the right cutting & grinding system necessary to achieve your desired results.

In the US, the purchase of a complete EXAKT System includes installation and training in the equipments’ operation and maintenance as well as instruction on the technique of making thin sections.
