There are equipment manufacturers for cutting almost every kind of material. Yet, cutting multiple materials can be very different from, and much more difficult, than cutting a single material.

It is in the cutting of multiple materials that EXAKT excels.

The original EXAKT cutting device was a band system utilizing a diamond embedded cutting band. The objective of its design was to be able to cut mineralized bone, teeth, tissue, and metal or plastic biomaterials without disrupting the interface between any two substances. The purpose was to provide a researcher in biomaterials with a better way to process the sample and later prepare it for microscopic evaluation.

As the technology has improved, the list of materials that can be successfully sectioned without distortion and interface disruption has grown. The answer to that growth has been an increase in the versatility and numbers of the EXAKT Cutting Systems.

In 1995, EXAKT introduced the first "Contact Point" system known as the MCP (minimum contact point). Since then, all technological advances at EXAKT have been based on how best to integrate this technology into the cutting of difficult samples.

In 2011, EXAKT introduced the Pathology Saw. Based on the same diamond band technology, the new Pathology brings an enhanced level of performance and safety to handling gross tissue in a variety of settings.
